House Bill HB 2500 and Senate Bill SB 500 have been introduced in the House by Representative Resman and in the Senate by Senator Billinger on behalf of the Kansas Coalition of Public Retirees. They will create a commission to review a cost-of-living adjustment for KPERS retirees.

Senate Bill SB238

SB238 is the 2025 KPERS Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) Senate bill. The bill's fiscal note shows the cost and would have helped those retiring after 1999. The senate bill was introduced and sent to the Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance on February 7, 2025.

House Bill HB2380

HB2380 is the 2025 KPERS Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) House bill. The bill would provide a post-retirement cost of living adjustment to certain KPERS retirees who are 85 years of age or older. The bill's fiscal note provides the cost of the bill. The house bill was introduced and sent to the Committee on Taxation on February 13, 2025.

Inflation vs KPERS COLA

From 1997-2024 the rate of increase of KPERS benefits has not kept up with increases in inflation, social security COLA, or legislative pay.
